NOTE: The 4th Division was organized at Camp Greene, North Carolina, on 10 December 1917 under the command of Maj. Gen. George H. Cameron. Their distinctive insignia, the four ivy leaves, came from the Roman numerals for four (IV) and signified their motto, “Steadfast and Loyal”. The Fourth Division saw action in the St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne Offensives, and also was involved in Post-Armistice occupation duty in Germany until returning to the U.S. in July 1919.
